White Hart Inn,Bouth

I would not normally rave on about an Inn or Hotel, but this one is so good.

Situated in the village of Bouth, near Ulverston in the south Lake District. The White Hart is a small Inn with some half a dozen rooms. The rooms are not luxurious but they are unique and quirky, heavy beams mean you have to be careful as you move about and that includes sitting on the loo and getting in and out of the bath! Our room, number 3 had no shower but a shower head on a flex controlled by the bath taps – you couldn’t have a shower fitted over the bath if you were over 1m tall. The floor is sloping so my wife kept rolling downhill in bed and ending up next to me – I thought it was romance!!.

The restaurant and bar are the real crowning glory. Full with locals and some tourists it has a great atmosphere. A really good selection of beers and wine and the food is so good. The menu is not haute cuisine , it’s doesn’t need to be. It is so well cooked using fresh local ingredients, the Steak and Guiness pie is delicious as is the Cumberland sausage. The chips are the best I have ever tasted anywhere.

It really is well worth a visit.
