That’s me, yes, the guy above. I was born on a small island off the North West coast of England in 1953. In 1973 I joined the Merchant Navy with P&O, where I was posted to Australia, cruising the South Pacific, and seeing islands so different to my home. When in Fiji, I bought a Canon FTB QL to take photographs to show folks back home what the South Pacific Islands were really like. After leaving the sea, my work took me again travelling the world, commissioning my employer’s products. With a camera by my side, I could explore the cities and countryside of whatever country I was in. Travelling mainly alone, photography took me out of the hotel’s bar, and kept me sober most days.
I was fortunate that my employer had a joint venture in India and I lived there for a few years in the early 80’s, what a country to see through a camera lens! My travelling internationally for work stopped in 1988, but the desire to roam this planet has never left me, so again my camera was my constant companion.
The year 2000 ushered in the change from film to digital, but I still have the last 35mm film camera I owned, and often use it.
Today, for film, I have the 35mm Canon EOS 3 I mentioned earlier, and two medium format cameras; a Bronica ETRSi, and a 1936 Ensign Model No 1 camera made by H.B.M. Co Ltd London.
My digital cameras are; an old EOS 20D, (my introduction to digital cameras), which has been converted to Infra Red, a Fujifilm 100X compact camera, and my workhorses are a pair of Canon EOS 5D’s Mk 3 & 4.
